| If you’re scheduled to play live at WMSE, we’ll arrange a time for you to arrive, usually an hour-and-a-half to two hours prior to airtime. WMSE is located at 820 N Milwaukee Street on the first floor of a white building with a red awning called Krueger Hall. There is a loading zone right out front, and we’ll help you haul in your gear when we can.
You’ll all be playing in one room, which is the station’s record library. In special cases, our Recording Engineer, Billy Cicerelli, may use our isolation room for vocals or sensitive instruments (not drums). We’ll strap headphones to each of you, and all musicians will have their own headphone mix with our new Furman headphone system.
Once set up, Billy will mic all instruments and get levels for each of you in our B Studio’s ProTools system. He’ll have you run through one or two songs, and invite you in to the studio to listen to a playback. You’ll have the opportunity to adjust the levels, and make sure you’ll sound exactly how you’d like to be heard on the air.
When everything sounds right, you’ll be introduced by the on-air DJ, and play anywhere between 3-6 songs, depending on song length and time constraints. When you’re finished, you’ll be invited into the studio for a brief interview wherein you can mention any upcoming shows or projects, contact info, record releases, etc. Billy will burn a copy of your performance immediately, and you’ll have a rough mix of the songs before you walk out the door.
And before you go, don’t forget to sign our yearbook. Seriously. Everyone who plays signs our yearbook. We like entries with drawings best.
